In the name of name of god Amen: August the 14th: ann dom 1635: I Edward Newman of Hanslopp in the countie of Bucks: blackesmith, beinge sicke and weake in bodie, but of perfect remembrance, thankes be given to god, doe make and ordaine, this my last will and testament, in manner and forme followinge; ffirst I comend my soule into the handes of allmightie god, my creator, trusting to be saved by the righteousnes and meritts of Jesus Christe my onley saviour and redeemer, and my bodie to christian buriall, expectinge a glorious resurrection att the last daie, and for my worldly goods, I give and bequeath as followeth; Imprimis I give unto the poore of Hanslopp six shillinges and eight pence, to be distributed at my buriall, by the discretion of my executrix and overseers Item I give unto John ffisher my wifes sonne tenn shillings to be paide within halfe a yeare after my decease Item I give unto Anne Denton my wifes daughter tenn shillinges to be paide within half a yeare after my decease Item I give unto Cassander Abraham my owne sister tenn shillinges, to be paide within halfe a yeare after my decease; Item I give unto my owne daughter Mary Arett twentie shillinges to be paide within one moneth next after my decease; Item I give unto my daughter Wiborow the bedd, that was her grandmothers, the new cofer, that I made for her, and the brasse pott, that was last bought, and one hundred pounds of lawfull mony to be paide within one yeare after my decease; Item I give unto my sonne Willyam, the little cloase in Ashecroft, which I bought of Willyam Ellis, and that halfe roode of ground at the upper end of my longe cloase in Ashecroft, wheare the gate standeth, which I tooke from Queene Anne, whearein I now dwell Item I give unto my sonne Robert, all the rest of my free lande and meadowe unbequeathed, and the cloase which we call the cottage and cloase, to him and to his heires forever; provided that my sonne Robert shall paie, unto myne executrix or executor, twentie pounds of lawfull mony within one yeare after my decease; Item I give unto my sonne Robert the bedd in the loft over my parlour, and the cofer whearein I lay my writings in the same loft, the cupboard in the shopp and all my workeing tooles in the same shoppe belonging to my trade and halfe the iron, and halfe the coales; Item I give unto my sonne Robert the greate brasse pott which I bought in Hanslopp faire; and I give unto my sonne Willyam the greate brasse pott, that I bought of ould George Tomkins but my will is my wife shall have these potts to use during her naturall life, and then my sonne to have them and not before, Item I give unto my twoe grandchilldren Edward and Robert, the sonnes of my sonne Willyam tenn pounds apeece, to be paide into the handes of my sonne Willyam theire father, within one yeare after my decease, he giveing unto my executrix an accquittance for the receipt theareof; and my will is that the sumes aforesaid of tenn pounds apeece, shall be paide to my aforesaide grandchilldren, by theire said father when they shall accomplishe the age of one and twenty yeares and further my will is; that if either of my said grandchilldren shall dye before they shall accomplishe the age aforesaid, then the whole twentie pounds, to remayned to the survivor of them; and if both shall dye, before they accomplishe that age then the whole sume to remayne to theire father; all the rest of my goods and chattells, moveable and unmoveable, I give unto my wife Margarett, my funeralle dischardged, my debts and legacies paide, whome I make myne sole executrix of this my last will and testament onely my will is that the furnace, in the kitchine and the hovell posts and rafters of all my hovells, she shall enioye but, duringe her naturall life and after to remayne to my sonne Willyam whoe is to enioye the howse and the liveinge after her decease; provided allso that my will is, that the saide Margaret my wife, shall make a perport estate accordinge to lawe, of halfe the liveinge which I nowe live in unto my sonne Willyam wheareby he may enioye it, duringe her naturall life accordinge to the condition at his marriage, or as he nowe enoyeth it; But if she shall refuse to doe it within a moneth after my decease, before she proves my will, then I give to my sonne Willyam, all my mony goods and chattells my funerall dischardged, my debts and legacies paide and doe make him my sole executor, of this last will and testament renouncinge all other wills formerly made whatsoever I make allso Thomas Travell my brother in lawe, and Henry Newman my cosen overseers, of this my last will and testament and I give them three shillinges and fower pence apeece for theire paines; In witnes wheareof I have heareunto sett my hande and seale the daie and yeare above written; sealed and published in the presence of Willyam Houghton and Henry Newman;
Margarett the wife of Edward Newman late of Hanslapp in the countie of Bucks blacksmithe lately deceased, hath made a perfect estate of halfe the liveinge, which I nowe live in Hanslapp unto me Willyam Newman, accordinge to the conditione at marriage and accordinge to the tense of the last will and testament of the saide Edward Newman; soe that I am contented, she the saide Margarett shall take uppon her the executorshipp of the saide will not with standing any promise thearein contayned to the contrary; Dated under my hand this third of September 1635 subscribed and acknowledged in the presence of Arthur Coldwell Willyam Weatherhead Willyam Newman
